A Statement from Passing of Tyshaun Turner

It is with great sadness that New Columbia Solar announces the passing of one of our staff members. Tyshaun Turner, a solar installer for our company, was gunned down in front of his apartment building on the afternoon of Monday, December 23, 2019.

Tyshaun came to our company through the Grid Alternatives “Solar Works” program and was recently featured in an article published by the D.C. Sustainability Energy Utility (DCSEU).

A D.C. native and resident of Ward 8,  Tyshaun was proud of the work he did to provide renewable energy opportunities for low-income residents in Wards 7 and 8.  Further, he was an advocate for fellow installers and for those who sought solar jobs in D.C.

Tyshaun was passionate about renewable energy and took part in a September 2018 news conference with the coalition that supported the Clean Energy DC Act.  He also joined  CEO Mike Healy in testifying before the D.C. City Council on behalf of the legislation, which was approved last year.

“Tyshaun Turner represented everything good about those seeking opportunities and advancement in the District of Columbia. He found a career he was passionate about and was ready to learn something new everyday. He was the kind of person that makes our community so great,” said New Columbia Solar  CEO Mike Healy.  “We send prayers and condolences to his family during this difficult time,” Healy added.
